MN LEAGUE – RECAP AND NEWS FOR 2015
The MN League, which began in 2011, has exponentially doubled in size each year! Last year, we supported 41 teams across the state of Minnesota – in 2015, we anticipate over 60 teams.
The MN League is one of 14 statewide mountain bike racing leagues operating under the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). Based in Berkeley, CA, NICA provides resources and guidance to guide the development of high school mountain bike racing across the U.S.
For the 2015 Fall racing season, MN League will be adding two new race venues to their schedule. Race 2 on Sept. 20th will take place in Austin, MN near Wolf Creek and Todd Park. This will be a new trail built for mountain bike riding and racing. Race 4 will take place on the Cuyuna Lakes Trail in Cuyuna Lakes, MN. The MN League strives to add new venues each year to the MN League schedule for team development and bring statewide awareness of the high school mountain bike racing program.
Other news for 2015 – we will be in our second season of middle school aged racing. Previously, only high school aged students could participate in NICA mountain bike racing programs. Thanks to a successful Pilot Program hosted by the MN League in 2013, 7th and 8th graders are now able to join existing teams or launch separate middle school teams.
Racing will take place in September and October 2015.
